Ofen

What if your oven could help you lose weight?

Description

The oven is one of the most ignored displays in the kitchen. It shows a temperature, maybe a timer, and nothing else. For the rest of its life it sits there, dark and waiting. Ofen asks what happens if that space is taken seriously.

The project reimagines the oven’s front panel as an ambient health interface. A built-in display tracks what is being cooked, calculates calories per serving, and shows a daily nutrition budget at a glance. No separate app required. The information lives where the cooking happens.

The concept connects weight management to an activity people already do: preparing food. Instead of logging meals after the fact in a phone app, Ofen integrates awareness into the moment of cooking itself. The display shows recipes with nutritional values, current calorie count, and remaining daily budget, all in the context of whatever is in the oven right now.

The project takes the abandoned household device as its starting point and asks what it could become with a considered ambient display, not more demanding, but more present.
